THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted the possibility of rainfall in the state on Sunday. An orange alert was issued in four districts, including Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.

A yellow alert was issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts today. Isolated heavy rain is expected. The Indian Meteorological Department defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.

The rains are expected to stay in the state for the coming days. Tomorrow, an orange alert has been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, and a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

The National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS) informed the possibility of the high waves along the coasts of Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Pozhiyur), Kollam (from Alappat to Edava), and Alappuzha (from Chellanam to Azhikkal Jetty) districts as part of Kallakadal phenomenon.
