THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The central government has sanctioned 225 new posts, including nurses, at the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology. Out of these, 107 posts are for nursing officers. There are also 18 senior nursing officer posts. With this, those who were included in the Nursing Officer Rank List but were fighting a legal battle without getting their appointments have gained hope. Kerala Kaumudi had reported this on January 29.
The new posts were created after the new block in the hospital, including OP, operation theatre and pay ward, started functioning. These include 57 senior residents, 17 assistant professors, 30 anaesthesia, cardiology, radiology and neurotechnician posts.
The Nursing Officer Rank List, which includes 590 people, was published by Sree Chitra on February 6, 2023. Only 59 people were appointed. The two-year list expired on February 6, but it has been frozen due to a case in the High Court.
Nursing candidates are hoping that with the creation of new posts, they will be recruited from the rank list. If the decision is to conduct exams and interviews by issuing a new notification, it may be questioned in court. If that happens, the new recruitment process will take up to a year, which will affect the functioning of the hospital.
"Several discussions were held with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh following the request of the nursing aspirants. The new posts were created as a result of that"
