Actor Dhanush was spotted at the wrap-up party of Anand L Rai's Tere Ishk Mein. Among many other stars, actress Mrunal Thakur was also present at the function. Later, the duo attended the screening of Kajol's movie ‘Maa’ and then at the premiere of ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’. By this time, rumours were rife in Bollywood circles about the two unlikely pair dating.

Sleuths of social media decided to find the truth behind the rumours, and they were not disappointed either. It was found that Mrunal’s playlist had songs recommended by Dhanush. The playlist was titled ‘Mama's Favs’, where the ‘Mama’ is possibly Dhanush. Tamil songs dominating the playlist of an actress who hails from Dhule in Maharashtra was a matter of surprise for many. Moreover, the songs were hits from the late 80s and early 90s, a rare playlist choice for an actress from the Hindi heartland.

Many doubt this dating rumour to be a new fabricated media gossip targeting the actor. Some others seconded the rumour story and found no surprise in two actors consensually agreeing to date, leaving behind their past.

In 2022, Dhanush announced his separation from his wife Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, ending their 18 years of marriage.
