The success of the movie ‘Punjabi House’ and the big acceptance received for the character ‘Ramanan’ left a lasting impression on actor Harisree Ashokan. The character was distinct and obtained a cult status over the years in Mollywood. When it came to naming his first house, Ashokan opted for ‘Punjabi House’ without giving any second thoughts. However, dreams came crashing down soon. Ashokan and family couldn’t even complete a day staying in the dream house due to the fear induced by the deplorable conditions, including the flooring.
Finally, the actor had no options left but to file a case in the consumer court. Now, Harishree Ashokan is opening up about the details of that case in an interview.
HARISREE ASHOKAN:
'The tiles started cracking the same year I built my house. The people who installed the tiles at that time came to my house to check and fix it. However, the problems continued, and when summoned, the people who did the work stopped coming to the house. I informed the tile shop owner about the issue. Due to my busy work schedule, I stopped calling them often, and they found it suitable to ignore me. I filed a case, and the court demanded that they pay me compensation. Two out of three people paid me compensation.
That case has been going on for seven years now. I am waiting to know what the verdict will be in that case. Cinema is not a menial task. We work in harsh climatic conditions without even getting proper sleep. I came from nothing and struggled very much to reach where I am now. I gave my sweat to build my dream house, so it breaks my heart when I realise what happened.
I am still very worried. I can't even sleep when I think about it. When I'm at a film set, my friends often raise concerns over my bad mood or sitting dejected. I am still very worried mentally. I am waiting for the court judgment."
