THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has fixed a service charge for Akshaya Centres for submitting applications and other transactions for various services to local self-government bodies through KSmart. This comes after complaints were received that Akshaya Centres were charging arbitrary rates. The service charge has been fixed between Rs 10 and Rs 100 for various services. The service charge is Rs 10 for amounts up to Rs 1000 for payment of taxes and fees. Rs 20 for amounts from Rs 1001 to Rs 5000. 0.5% of the amount above Rs 5000 or Rs 100 (whichever is less). The order also states that the list of service charges and application fees charged by Akshaya Centres should be displayed in a manner that is visible to the public. The Information Kerala Mission and the Kerala State Akshaya Project Office have been instructed to take steps to ensure the security of personal information in the services available through KSmart.
