KOTTAYAM: A Plus-One student was assaulted by two senior students for calling them 'bro'. The incident took place at the boys’ hostel of Girideepam Bethany School, Kalathipady, around 8 p.m. last Thursday. The attack reportedly took place inside the hostel toilet. The victim, a native of Attachakkal in Konni, suffered a nasal bone fracture and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pathanamthitta.
When the boy’s father, who works in Saudi Arabia, called the hostel to find out what had happened, he was initially told it was just a quarrel between students. Following demands for a proper inquiry, the boy was admitted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital on Saturday.
The father alleged that Brother Joshin and warden Binesh, who were present at the hostel during the incident, failed to take any action. He also claimed that the hostel in-charge insisted on saying the injury was caused by a ball hit to the nose. On Sunday, the boy’s aunt and relatives took him to a private hospital in Manarcad, where a scan revealed the fracture. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Pathanamthitta. Kottayam East police recorded the boy’s statement at the hospital and will submit the report to the Juvenile Justice Board.
