NEW DELHI: The Centre is reportedly considering halting purchases of new weapons and aircraft from the US following the imposition of additional duties on India. Reuters also reports that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's planned visit to the US in connection with the purchase of American weapons has been cancelled. Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry has denied the report and clarified that arms deals from the US have not been halted.

India had planned to buy Stryker combat vehicles manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems and Javelin anti-tank missiles developed by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The report says that this has been temporarily suspended. According to the report, India has decided to suspend arms deals worth $ 3.6 billion. The report also says that the process of buying six P31 aircraft from Boeing has been suspended.

Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian products as part of a retaliation against India's purchase of oil from Russia. With this, India is now facing a 50 percent tariff.
