KOCHI: The parents of Ramees, accused in the suicide of a 23-year-old TTC student in Kothamangalam, will be grilled today. They may also be arraigned in the case. The police have arrested the girl's boyfriend, Ramees (24) of Alangad in North Paravur. Ramees was remanded last night. Police said the girl committed suicide due to neglect from Ramees. She was neglected for not converting to Islam. The police also clarified that Ramees encouraged her to end her life when she expressed her intention. A custody plea will be filed for Ramees today.

After her suicide note surfaced, Ramees was taken into custody by the Kothamangalam police for questioning. The arrest was registered after this. Her note said that she was locked up in Ramees' house, assaulted and forced to convert to their religion. The TTC student was found hanging in her house last Saturday. Her brother said Ramees assaulted Sona physically and mentally. Her brother also alleged that the goal of Ramees and his family was religious conversion. Ramees was arrested under multiple sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide, voluntarily causing hurt and sexual abuse under the pretext of marriage.

She also alleged that she was pressured by him to embrace his faith. Her note said that she was locked in his house, assaulted and forced to convert to his religion. She was found hanging at her house last Saturday. Her suicide note said, 'I can't live being cheated like this. I forgave Ramees even after he was caught for immoral traffic. However, he proved again and again that he doesn't love me. I went with him after leaving my family. He then forced me to convert to his religion. He took me home on the pretext of a registered marriage and then made his family say that marriage will be conducted only if converted. Even though his parents knew about his mistakes, they didn't take any action. Even after agreeing to conversion, Ramees, his friends and family continued cruelty towards me. He strictly told me that it wasn't enough to change my religion and that she should stay in his house.
