WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that the US is not planning to impose additional tariffs on Russia or its trading partners immediately. This decision comes as a relief for India. Earlier, Trump had warned that India could face higher tariffs if it bought oil from Russia. However, Trump also mentioned that the decision might be reviewed in the next two to three weeks.

Speaking in an interview, Trump said that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska went well. He rated the meeting 10 out of 10. Earlier, the US had warned that if the meeting failed, it could lead to more tariffs on India.

Trump said, “We may need to reconsider the tariffs in two or three weeks. Acting now could be more harmful, but we don’t need to think about it immediately.” He did not provide details about future actions.

The meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin took place in Alaska, in the northwestern part of the US. This was the first meeting between the Russian and US presidents since 2021.

Trump had earlier warned that Russia could face “very serious consequences” if Putin did not agree to a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine.
