NEW DELHI: The Indian men’s cricket team is all set to undergo an overhaul. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is sticking with the idea of one captain for all three formats. After the Test series against England, the BCCI is now focusing on the Twenty20 format. Reports suggest that the management is planning significant reforms.
The big move comes after criticism of the team’s inability to adapt to the changing dynamics of cricket. The plan includes making strategic changes, appointing a single captain across all formats and identifying and including players with special talents in T20Is.
Players will be assigned different roles based on their abilities. If the openers lay a strong foundation at the beginning of the innings, there is also a plan to move players like Shivam Dubey from finisher roles and bring them into the top batting order. Suryakumar Yadav is likely to lead the team in the Asia Cup next month. Fans are also eagerly waiting for Gill's possibilities within Gambhir’s new plans. The opening partnership currently provided by Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma could change if Gill is included in the team.
