PATNA: A police officer was injured after being hit by a vehicle carrying Rahul Gandhi. The accident took place during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar this morning. The accident occurred while the procession, including party workers and security personnel, was progressing through a crowded street. The open jeep in which Rahul Gandhi was travelling ran over the police officer's leg.

Party workers and other police officers immediately pushed the vehicle backwards and rescued the policeman from between the wheels of the jeep. Rahul Gandhi gave water to the injured policeman immediately after the accident and visited him later as well.

The BJP mocked Rahul Gandhi's Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar as 'Crush Janta Yatra'. ''Rahul Gandhi's car crushed a police constable who was critically injured. The dynast did not even get down to check on him'' BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonewala mocked. The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' started on Sunday from Bihar, where assembly elections are near. Rahul had earlier alleged that there was a conspiracy to steal votes in Bihar.

The 16-day Yatra will end in Patna on September 1. The route of the Yatra has been arranged in such a way that it will cover a distance of 1300 km across 20 districts. The Yatra will pass through major parts like Nalanda, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnia, Darbhanga, etc. The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' is the biggest political event organised by the Congress after the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Nyay Yatra, which helped the party make significant progress in the Lok Sabha elections.
