WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has nominated his close aide Sergio Gor (38) as the new American Ambassador to India. The move comes at a time when differences remain between India and the US over tariff issues.

Gor is currently the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office and also serves as Trump’s Special Representative for South and Central Asian Affairs. He will continue in these roles until the US Senate approves his appointment.

“Sergio Gor is a good friend of mine. He has been with me for many years and worked behind my historic presidential campaigns. In the world’s most populous region, I need someone I fully trust to carry out my agenda and strengthen America’s role. That is very important,” Trump wrote on social media about Gor.
