ALAPPUZHA: After the real accused in the murder of a 62-year-old woman in Thottapally was arrested, the family of 60-year-old Aboobacker, who was arrested the other day, has filed a complaint against the police to the chief minister and the DGP for making him an accused. The complaint alleged that the police tried to frame him in a false case and fabricate fake evidence. The family also demanded that Aboobacker, who is innocent in the case, be released from jail.
Sainulabdeen alias Kochumon (44), of Pallana, staying in a rented house in Karunagappally and his wife Anisha (38) were taken into custody from their house Saturday morning by a team led by Ambalapuzha DySP K N Rajesh. Anisha is Sainulabdeen's third wife. The turning point was when the old woman's stolen mobile phone was recovered from them.
Sainulabdeen had earlier lived in a rented house near the old woman's house. He believed that robbery would be easy since she lived alone. On the night of August 16, he along with his wife Anisha broke into her house for robbery. Both were drunk. They broke open the door and entered, but did not find any gold or valuables, took only her phone. When the old woman saw them, Sainulabdeen strangled her to death. The murder came to light on August 17. The switched-off phone was found working in Karunagappally Tower location on Friday. He was later arrested.
No murder charge against Aboobacker
The police confirmed that Aboobacker (68) of Puthenveetil, Ambanakulangara, who was arrested the other day, has no connection with the murder. Aboobacker, who had a long-term relationship with the woman, was at her house on the day of the incident before the murder. Police said the doctor who conducted the postmortem reported that she had been raped. Aboobacker, who thought that the elderly woman, who had severe asthma, had died while they were engaged in sex, confessed to the crime during interrogation. The murder charge against Aboobacker will be dropped. However, the police said that other charges including rape will remain.
