KOLLAM: Police have arrested an elderly man who stole BSNL fiber cables. The Chavara police have arrested Santosh Kumar (56), a native of Panmana Kalari. His attempt was to cause losses to the BSNL contractor and disrupt internet service in the area.

BSNL officials had received a complaint that someone was regularly cutting and damaging the fiber cables and joint boxes installed on the poles in the Kalari area. About 50 customers dropped their BSNL connections after continuous lack of internet. This caused a loss of Rs. 50,000 to the company. The police checked the surveillance cameras in the area during the subsequent investigation. The accused was identified based on the information obtained from it. He was arrested after questioning.
