KOCHI: The body of a newborn baby was found buried in a garbage dump near a house on Kanjirakkad Masjid Road in Perumbavoor. The house is rented by migrant workers.
The police have inferred that it is the baby of a West Bengal couple who lived in a nearby rented house. The house they lived in is locked. The body was first discovered by another migrant worker, a neighbour, who noticed a dog digging near the house at around 3.30 pm. The body is that of a one-day-old girl. The body was shifted to the Taluk Hospital morgue after the inquest. A man from West Bengal has been taken into custody by the police in this connection. His wife has been admitted to Kalamassery Medical College.
Police ask woman to dig up body
The Perumbavoor police, who reached the scene, drew criticism for asking a woman, a migrant worker, to dig up the body using a stick. Police officers, including the DySP and inspector, and local men were watching as spectators at this time.
