THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Crime Branch, which has registered a case against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil on high-profile issues, is trying to find the victims and record their statements. The Crime Branch will start the investigation by recording the statements of three people who made revelations through social media and other sources. It will also attempt to locate women who have had negative experiences. Only after recording their statements can the case under serious sections be valid. Crime Branch Thiruvananthapuram Range DySP C. Binukumar is in charge of the investigation.

The nine complaints received so far are based on media reports. The High Court lawyer had complained to the Ernakulam Central Police that a case should be registered on the allegation of forced abortion. It is said that the case was registered on the instructions of the DGP after the police chief examined the complaints received and found that they were serious crimes. The Museum Police has recorded the statement of Kerala Congress leader AH Hafees in a complaint that Rahul Mamkootathil forced the young woman to have an abortion. Crime Branch chief H. Venkatesh will oversee the investigation.

Challenge of finding victims

  1. The Crime Branch will issue notices to identify those who claim to have had negative experiences with Rahul and to enable their cooperation with the investigation. The case will have to be closed if the victims are not willing to give their statements.
  2. The move is to seize Rahul's phone and laptop to identify the victims and collect evidence. Cyber experts will also be included in the investigation team for this purpose.
  3. Rahul is accused of stalking and harassing women through social media, acting in a way that causes mental anguish, and sending messages forcing them to have abortions. The case will only be valid if the victims are identified and their statements are recorded.
