THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The case of attempting to murder chief minister by youth congress activists inside the flight will not stand. The Centre had denied permission for the report filed by the Civil Aviation Department seeking sanction for the prosecution. The central government also informed the state government that the Aviation Safety Act would not apply in the case. The incident related to the case happened on June 13, 2022. Four Congress workers, including former MLA K S Sabarinathan, are accused in the case.
The case is that Congress workers tried to kill the chief minister on Indigo 6 E-7407 flight from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram. A case has been registered against Farzeen Majeed, R K Naveen Kumar and Sunith Narayanan. The then Youth Congress Vice President K S Sabarinathan was also implicated in the incident. The charge was that he had called for a protest on the plane in a WhatsApp group of Youth Congress workers.
The police report said the activists had threatened to kill the chief minister. In addition to the attempt to murder, a section of the Civil Aviation Act was also charged. The sections charged were those of attempting to endanger a passenger on an aircraft and causing damage to the aircraft. A special team conducted an investigation and submitted the charge sheet to the government for prosecution permission. Since there is a Civil Aviation Act, the state had submitted the report to the Center for prosecution permission.
The police had not been able to submit the charge sheet in the attempt to murder case against the chief minister for three years due to lack of permission from the Center. The state had sent a letter several times for permission. Finally, two weeks ago the Center replied by denying permission.
