BENGALURU: More details have come out regarding the incident in which a youth died after being bitten by a snake that was hiding inside his footwear. The incident took place in Bannerghatta in Bengaluru last Friday. The deceased is Manjuprakash (41), an employee of Tata Consultancy. He was using a pair of Crocs footwear. According to reports, a viper was hiding inside his footwear, which he had left outside the house. The Bannerghatta police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. Authorities are awaiting confirmation on whether the cause of death was indeed due to the snakebite.

Manjuprakash's family has not lodged a complaint about the incident. On the day of the incident, Manjuprakash stepped out of his house at Ranganatha Layout around 12:45 p.m. to buy sugarcane juice for his mother. Unaware of the reptile inside his footwear, he walked a considerable distance. After returning home, he handed the juice to his sister-in-law before lying down to rest. A short while later, he was found unresponsive, frothing at the mouth. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be saved.

A labourer who visited the house later discovered a dead snake inside the footwear. In 2016, Family members recalled that Manjuprakash had undergone leg surgery in 2016 following a bus accident, which had left him with reduced sensation in the same leg where the bite occurred. They believe this may have prevented him from realising he had been bitten. Manjuprakash is survived by his wife and two children.
