ISLAMABAD: The death toll in three attacks in various parts of Pakistan yesterday has touched 25. The explosions were in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Many were injured after a suicide bomber targeted a political rally in Balochistan.
The explosion took place during a rally of the Balochistan National Party in Quetta. Hundreds of people had come for the rally. The explosion occurred as party leader Akhtar Mengal was leaving the stage to deliver a speech. 14 people were killed and many were injured. It is suspected that the explosion was aimed at Akhtar Mengal. The rally was held to demand more rights and investments for Balochistan.
Six Pakistani soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack targeted the headquarters of the paramilitary force in the city of Bannu. A man carrying a truck full of explosives reportedly rammed it into a military base and detonated it. Five more suicide bombers followed, but were killed by the army. The Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Five paramilitary personnel were killed in a car bomb attack on a convoy of military vehicles near the Iranian border. Some were also injured. It is not clear who was behind the attack.
Security has been tightened in Balochistan in the wake of the suicide attacks. Balochistan is the region with the highest number of suicide attacks in Pakistan.
