THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In connection with the Onam season, the Public Distribution and Legal Metrology departments jointly conducted inspections in the public market in the capital city. The inspections were conducted at about 25 shops in the vegetable, bakery, restaurant and grocery categories, mainly centred around Chala Market.
Nothing like hoarding, artificial price hike or black market sales was found in the inspection. Action was taken against 11 business establishments for not displaying price information, using weighing scales that are not sealed, and not renewing licenses. A fine of Rs. 17,000 was collected from them. Notices have been issued to other establishments, and a report was submitted to the District Collector for action. In addition, strict instructions were given to shopkeepers to display price lists.
The inspection, led by District Supply Officer Sindhu K.V., was attended by North City Rationing Officer Rajalakshmi S., Legal Metrology Inspector Sajeeb A.K., and Rationing Inspectors Jisha P.P., Rashmi K.V., Shini C.G., and Mahesh V.
