KOZHIKODE: Samastha leader Dr Bahahuddin Nadwi made insulting remarks against ministers and MLAs. He mockingly said many ministers, MPs and MLAs have in charge wives besides their own wives. Nadwi said that they are all walking in society as respectable people by opposing polygamy. He was speaking at the Sunni Mahal Federation meet at Madavoor in Kozhikode.

'All of them will have one wife. However, there will be other people as wife in charge. If asked to raise their hands to those who don’t have, no one will. All walk in society as respectable people by opposing polygamy. The mother of former Kerala Chief Minister EMS Namboodiripad got married at the age of 11. For the past few years, Muslim groups have been trying to establish polygamy and marriage of girls before the age of 18. Organizations are making efforts at the all-India level to get girls married before the age of 18,' said Nadwi.

Nadwi is the Chancellor of the Arabic University. He spoke about the marriage of EMS Namboodiripad's mother during his speech as part of his justification for getting girls married before they reach puberty.
