PATHANAMTHITTA: It has been alleged that a retired bank official was physically assaulted by the Adoor Police without any reason. The complaint was raised by Pallikkal native Babu (62) against the then Sub Inspector Anoop Chandran. Babu told the media that he has not received justice despite submitting complaints to many, including the Chief Minister, several months ago.

Babu said he had a dispute with another person over financial transactions. On May 27, the matter was settled at the Adoor police station under the mediation of the CI. After the settlement, the CI stepped out, asking him to provide a written statement confirming that he had no further complaints. It was then, according to Babu, that SI Anoop Chandran entered the station, verbally abused him, and beat him without any reason.

Babu's wife, standing outside the station, pleaded that her husband was unwell and should not be harassed. However, she too was verbally assaulted by the SI, who even used casteist remarks. Babu further alleged that the officer kicked him with his boots and used extremely offensive language. Babu and his wife are Dalit activists. He claimed that despite filing complaints with the Chief Minister, the Legislative Petition Committee, and the SC/ST Commission, no real action has been taken.

Following the complaint, SI Anoop Chandran was transferred from the Adoor station to the district control room. However, Babu alleges no further disciplinary action has been taken. The SC/ST Commission had also asked the police for a report on the incident, but it has not yet been submitted.
