NEW DELHI: Senior journalist and editor of The Telegraph, Sangharshan Thakur (63), passed away. He died at a private hospital in Gurugram due to age-related ailments. Wife: Sona Children: Jahan, Ayushmann.

A native of Bihar, Sangharshan started his journalism career in 1984 with the Sunday magazine. He worked for The Indian Express and Tehelka. Sangharshan's reports were meticulous analyses of Indian politics. His reports accurately depicted the political developments in Bihar.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's biography 'Single Man: The Life and Times of Nitish Kumar of Bihar' and former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's political biography 'Subaltern Saheb: Bihar and the Making of Laloo Yadav' deeply analyse Bihar politics. 'The Brothers Bihari' is a political analysis book written with the two leaders as its main focus. Sankarshan Thakur has written extensively on Jammu and Kashmir and reported firsthand on the Kargil War.

Sankarshan has received the Prem Bhatia Award for Excellence in Political Journalism (2001) and the Appan Menon Fellowship (2003). Leaders such as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha, prominent media workers, Editors Guild of India and Press Club of India organizations condoled his death.
