BENGALURU: Eight people were injured in communal clashes in Maddur, Karnataka, on Monday. The clashes started after a group pelted stones at a Ganesh idol procession held at 8 pm on Sunday. The police, after imposing prohibitory orders in the area, took 21 people into custody. Meanwhile, the police lathi-charged the protesters. The enraged mob attacked some places of worship. A large police contingent is now deployed in the area. The police conducted a route march to avoid clashes.

The police issued strict instructions not to spread rumours that could disrupt communal harmony. The police have asked the locals not to take any action that could disrupt the peace. The district administration appealed to both communities to cooperate with the law enforcers to restore normalcy.

Meanwhile, the Bangarpet police registered a case against the waving of the Palestinian flag during the Prophet's Day procession in Kolar. Five people were arrested in the incident.
