WADAKKANCHERRY: The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Friday came down heavily on the police for presenting arrested KSU leaders in masks and handcuffs in the case related to the attack on SFI leaders. The court also served a show-cause notice to Wadakkanchery SHO Shahjahan.
KSU activists Ganesh Kumar (23), Al Ameen (23), and Muhammed Aslam (22) were produced in this manner. Advocate Eldo Pookkunel, representing the students, told the court that they were treated and paraded as if they were terrorists.
The court questioned SI Husainar on the reason for such treatment. He replied that it was for an identification parade. When the court asked on what grounds the leaders’ names were included in the FIR, the police had no answer. Following this, the court directed action against the SHO and asked for reports to be submitted to the District Police Chief and the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
The case relates to the September 18 incident, when Ganesh Kumar and his group allegedly attacked SFI leaders Adityan and Eldhose near Mullurkara railway gate. The accused later went into hiding before being arrested. They have been remanded for 14 days, and their bail plea will be heard on Monday.
Meanwhile, the families of the students said they would file complaints with the Human Rights Commission against the police action. The Congress party also condemned the incident, with leaders K. Ajith Kumar, P.J. Raju, Shahid Rahman, and P.G. Jayadeep demanding that the SHO be dismissed from service.
