WADAKKANCHERRY: A clash broke out during a KSU protest march against the police for producing students in court with their faces covered. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters. Several people, including KSU state president Aloshious Xavier, district president Gokul Guruvayoor, K. Ajith Kumar, and P.N. Vaishakh, were injured. Traffic on the national highway was blocked for hours due to the protest.
The confrontation began when police stopped the protesters with barricades near the Mariamman temple. As the situation escalated, police resorted to tear gas and water cannons. When protesters tried to cut the barricade ropes with a hacksaw blade and move forward, tear gas was used twice. Some protesters climbed onto a police bus in defiance.
Protesters also marched to the SHO’s house in Pattambi. KSU announced that another march, led by the Block Congress Committee, will be held on Monday.
