THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More details have emerged in the accident that led to the death of a 59-year-old man in Kilimanoor. The vehicle involved has been identified as a Maruti 800 car owned by Parassala SHO Anil Kumar. Rajan, a native of Chennikuzi in Kilimanoor, was hit while walking along the road around 5 p.m. last Sunday. The car sped away without stopping after the collision.
Police identified the vehicle using CCTV footage. According to the FIR, the car was driven recklessly and at high speed. After the accident, the vehicle was reportedly taken to a workshop for repairs. Rajan was left bleeding on the road for nearly an hour before locals spotted him around 6 p.m. and rushed him to a hospital, but his life could not be saved.
The investigation is being led by Kilimanoor police. They are checking if Anil Kumar himself was driving the vehicle. If proven, police said non-bailable charges will be filed against him. More CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the driver. Police have also decided to summon Anil Kumar to the Kilimanoor station for questioning. Sources indicate that if his role is confirmed, suspension and further action are likely.
