PALAKKAD: An elephant ran amok during the Sri Krishna Jayanthi procession in Kunnathurmedu. The elephant named Cherpulassery Manikandan ran amok and entered a nearby house. The authorities said the elephant has now been controlled and the three people sitting on top of the elephant have been rescued. Nine elephants were brought to the Kunnathurmedu Krishna temple as part of the festival. One of them ran amok.

A mahout who tried to bring the elephant under control was injured. He has been admitted to the Palakkad District Hospital. It is reported that the elephant did not cause any major damages. The elephant, which remained calm, was chained by another mahout. The elephant squad and the police had reached the spot. While the first mahout was bringing the elephant, someone gave grass to the elephant. Ponnu Mani, the doctor of the elephant squad said the provocation was after the mahout disallowed the elephant to take the grass.
