THRISSUR: A youth's palm was shattered after a firecracker exploded in his hand on top of the Thottappu Lighthouse at Chavakkad beach. The injured youth has been identified as Salman Faris, a native of Manathala. The youth, who sustained severe injuries to his right hand, has been admitted to a private hospital in Thrissur.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening while Salman and four friends were attempting to film reels. The group had climbed to the top of the lighthouse with leftover firecrackers from a friend’s wedding. Their plan was to record a video of lighting and throwing the firecracker from the top.

However, strong winds near the sea caused the firecracker to explode unexpectedly before it could be thrown. It went off in Salman’s hand, leaving him seriously injured. Police have registered a case against all five youths, including the injured, for the incident. Four of them have been taken into custody and officially arrested. Police said setting off explosives on top of the lighthouse is a non-bailable offence.
