Muralee Thummarukudy, the Director of the Coordination Office of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, and known for his opinion on social issues, recently remarked on his experience watching the movie ‘Lokah’. His post on social media is now going viral.

Muralee Thummarukudy:

“During my childhood, when electricity was still a far-fetched dream, I remember my uncle telling me the story of Kalliyankattu Neeli. I couldn’t sleep that day in fear. The next time I encountered Neeli was through poet Ezhacherry Ramachandran. Ezhacheryy gave a different treatment to the legend that we ended up empathising with Neeli rather than getting frightened. Yesterday I watched Lokah, the movie that revolves around the legend of Kalliyankattu Neeli.

I watched the movie in an excellent theatre with a top-notch sound system in City Centre Deira in Dubai. Despite being branded as a 200 crore film from Mollywood, the theatre was rather empty. The story is centred in Bengaluru, and so there should be mandatory showings of pubs, youngsters and usage of banned drugs.

Amidst this comes superwoman, spear, ghost, machine gun, drugs, former king, present home minister, Chathan and dogs.

The movie duration is more than two and a half hours. When I left the theatre, no character remained in my mind. The climax part is a mishmash of violence. The sounds of machine guns, fights, etc. Those scenes were meant to frighten people, but I ended up laughing.”
