ADIMALI: A case has been registered against the owners in connection with the death of two workers after the compound wall of an under-construction resort at Thattathimuku near Chithirapuram in Munnar collapsed on them after earth caved in. The case was registered after making Sherin Anil Joseph of Ernakulam as the first accused and her husband Seby P Joseph as the second accused. The FIR filed said the accident was caused for constructing the resort after violating the stop memo and non-compliance with safety standards. A case has been registered under non-bailable sections.
The two dead were identified as Benny (43) of Bison Valley near Kunchithani and K R Rajeev (43) of Anachal. The accident happened at 4 pm yesterday after the compound wall of an under-construction resort building at Thattathimukku near Chithirapuram collapsed on them. A large amount of earth caved in and they were trapped under the debris. There was heavy rain at the time of the incident. The two were taken out using a JCB.
The accident occurred during the construction that was carried out in violation of the stop memo of the Devikulam Sub-Collector. The construction of the resort started initially using the permission to build a house. In the meantime, the revenue department issued a stop memo, but the construction continued again in violation of this. With this, Devikulam Sub-Collector V M Arya came directly and issued a stop memo. The tragedy occurred yesterday while the construction was in progress in violation of this.
