THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government decided to increase the price of milk due to the increase in production costs. Minister Chinchu Rani informed the assembly on Thursday that the price hike will be implemented from December. The maximum increase will be Rs 5 per litre.
The GST exemption granted to dairy products will be implemented on the 22nd of this month. Milma Chairman K.S. Mani had stated the other day that the price increase will be made after conducting a study. According to the study of the committee appointed by Milma in 2022, the production cost of a litre of milk is Rs 49. After that, the price, including fodder, increased. Now, the average dairy farmer gets Rs 44 per litre. The milk price was last increased in December 2022.
Feed is produced in Kerala by importing raw materials, including maize, from other states. Straw and silage have to be imported from Tamil Nadu. The price of these too has increased in recent times.
