In today’s rapidly evolving tech world, new experiments and trends cannot be stopped or ignored. When computers first were first introduced in Kerala, there were strong claims that they would cause massive job losses, even leading to protests. Yet, the rise of the IT sector ended up creating employment for lakhs of young people. Now, with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a similar worry has surfaced — that many IT workers may lose their jobs. This concern is not baseless, as large-scale layoffs have already occurred in top IT companies across the country. The only way forward is to embrace these technological changes, learn to use them effectively, and build stronger technical skills.

It is in this backdrop that one should view the Kochi Infopark's decision to set up a fully AI-driven IT city. Once completed, this will be India’s first technology park where only AI-driven companies will operate. As part of Infopark’s third phase of development, the project is expected to create around two lakh new jobs. For IT professionals, this represents a positive shift towards AI-driven careers, at a time when many fear losing jobs. But to make use of this job opportunity, those currently working in the IT sector must identify the possibilities of AI within their work platforms and gain the skills to apply them.

Currently, across its two phases, Kochi Infopark spans 323 acres and houses 582 companies with 72,000 IT professionals. In the upcoming third phase, spread over 300 acres in Kizhakkambalam, the addition of two lakh AI jobs will increase Infopark’s total workforce to nearly 2.75 lakh. What makes Phase 3 special is not just the focus on AI companies but also the fact that everything- from entry access to water, electricity, and transport- will be fully AI-controlled. It will be like a smart world powered by artificial intelligence.

History shows that businesses which failed to adapt to new technologies were pushed out of the market. The same is true for professionals. Tasks that earlier took an IT worker two or three days can now be completed in seconds using AI tools. But one thing remains true- nothing created by humans is greater than human intelligence itself. AI can analyse huge amounts of past data and suggest solutions, but only the human brain has the unique ability to imagine and create new ideas. With belief, confidence and hard work, the challenges posed by AI can be easily turned into opportunities.
