THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The political mudslinging over the death of Thirumala Municipal Councillor Anil continues. The BJP alleged that the police joined hands with the ruling CPM to harass and hunt down Anil over purported financial irregularities related to a loan from the District Farm Tour Cooperative Bank. The CPM claims that Anil ended his life due to BJP leaders defrauding him by taking a loan from the bank, of which he was the president.
Meanwhile, the police and CPM came forward, dismissing the allegations raised by BJP. The Thampanoor police said that they summoned Anil Kumar for mediation talks, based on a complaint over not returning the deposit money in the cooperative bank.
A month ago, Anil Kumar and the society secretary had filed a complaint with the Thampanoor police after a person created a ruckus in front of the society. Accordingly, the police summoned the person who had caused the commotion. The person said he created a ruckus as he wanted back his deposit of Rs 10 lakh. He later filed a complaint with the police over the matter. As per the police, Thampanoor police summoned both parties and resolved the issue through mediation.
Anil's suicide note revealed that when the borrowers failed to repay the money, the board members showed laxity in getting the money back and that he was isolated.
Meanwhile, CPM alleged BJP of getting away with the death by blaming the police. The CPM district committee said that the suicide note of Anil blamed the BJP leadership and not CPM. The CPM has also decided to hold protest meetings in the wards today. Meanwhile, the BJP will conduct a protest march to the Thampanoor police station on Monday.
Poojappura police will record statements from Anil’s colleagues and bank representatives over the death.
