THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More details have emerged from the suicide note of BJP leader Thirumala Anil, who was also a municipal councillor and president of a cooperative society. The note has come out at a time when political controversies continue over his death. It runs into two pages, and Anil has clearly stated that he had no personal financial liabilities. Anil took his own life due to the financial crisis faced by the cooperative society.
'I have not given any benami loans. I have not betrayed the party or its workers. It was those I trusted who cheated me. A lot of money is stuck. Repayments are getting delayed for various reasons. The Farm Tourism Society, where I serve as president, has been going through a financial crisis for some time. Revenue is not coming in like before. I can no longer bear this mental stress,' Anil wrote. However, he did not mention the name of any individuals in the note.
Meanwhile, the CPM has alleged that the BJP is responsible for Anil’s death. Minister V Sivankutty accused the BJP of trying to exploit the tragedy for political gain, calling it “a party without conscience.” The BJP, on the other hand, has alleged that the CPM and the police are behind Anil’s death. The party is preparing to stage a march to the Thampanoor police station.
Anil was found dead inside the ward committee office on Saturday, around 8 a.m. He had first entered public life as an RSS worker and later served as district general secretary and state committee member of the Hindu Aikya Vedi. He was elected as a councillor from Thrikkannapuram in 2015 and from Thirumala in 2020. He also served as deputy leader of the corporation’s parliamentary party. After the post-mortem, his body was kept at the corporation office for public homage, where Minister V Sivankutty, Mayor Arya Rajendran, and others paid their respects.
