MIAMI: Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of this season in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Busquets has won nine Spanish La Liga titles and three Champions League titles with Barcelona. Busquets, who captained the Spanish team, retired from the national team after their defeat to Morocco in the pre-quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup. He was a part of Spain's victories in the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euro Cup. He wore the Spanish jersey in 143 matches in a 15-year illustrious career.

Busquets is considered one of the most overlooked midfielders whose game style is dubbed as poetry in motion. Sergio Busquets, with a rangy physique, might mistake anyone as an ill fit for the CDM position, which demanded physical dominance in winning duels.

Knowing his limitations, Busquests built on his skill in body movement and ball control to a level which others could only envy. His silky passes breaking the lines have many times left the opposition team in torments. The attribute which makes him one of the finest in the game is his ability to make the game look easy when it is actually not.

Tributes and appreciation are coming from all quarters for the legend of the game, who is hanging up his boots.

“You watch the game, you don’t see Busquets, you watch Busquets and see the whole game”, Del Bosque, Spain’s World Cup-winning coach.
