PALAKKAD: A complaint has been filed that an eight-year-old girl's arm was amputated following medical negligence at the Palakkad District Hospital. Vinodini, a native of Pallasana in Palakkad, lost her right arm. The Palakkad DMO announced that a preliminary investigation has been announced into the incident. Dr. Padmanabhan and Dr. Kavya are in charge of the investigation. Vinodini's mother Praseetha told the media that the child did not receive proper treatment at the district hospital. The child's right arm was amputated at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital as her condition became serious.

Vinodini injured her arm when she fell while playing at home on September 24. The family then took the child first to Chittoor Hospital and then to Palakkad District Hospital. The child's arm was wounded and fractured. The family says that the child's wound was bandaged with medicine, and a plaster was put on it.

"Even though Vinodini was in pain, they didn't care. The doctors told us to come back after five days. The blood flow to the child's arm had stopped, and the arm was in a rotten state, when the plaster was removed," said her mother Praseetha. The doctors told them to approach another hospital for further treatment after this. The family said that they did not go to a private hospital due to financial difficulties and took the child to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

However, Palakkad District Hospital authorities say that there was no lapse in the incident of the eight-year-old girl's arm being amputated. There was no lapse on the part of the hospital. All treatment was provided according to procedure. District Hospital Superintendent Dr. PK Jayashree told the media that what happened was a rare occurrence. The hospital superintendent said that the child was taken to the hospital late, even though she was in pain, which is why the situation reached this point.
