karur-stampede

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has come down heavily on actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay in connection with the incident where several people died in a stampede during TVK's rally in Karur. Lashing out at Vijay and the TVK leadership, the court said that what happened in Karur was a man-made disaster. The court questioned who is responsible for the tragedy and noted that only two people have been arrested so far. It also pointed out that Vijay disappeared from the scene immediately after the incident.

The court criticised the fact that no one was present at the site to help or rescue the people. A total of 41 people died in the tragedy. The High Court appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. North Zone IG will be in charge of the case investigation. The court stated that it cannot close its eyes or remain silent as the entire world is a witness to the tragedy.

The court questioned the organisers’ claim of having no responsibility and highlighted that the situation reflects Vijay’s state of mind. It criticised the handling of the disaster, saying proper measures were not taken. “What action did you take? You allowed this to happen. Now you say only two people have been arrested. Who is responsible for all this? The leader Vijay disappeared. No one was there to help the people,” the court said.
