KOLKATA: BJP leaders were attacked by locals while visiting flood-hit areas. The incident took place in West Bengal's Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district on Monday. BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked by locals. Tension prevailed in the area. Soon after the incident, police reached the spot and admitted the injured leaders to the hospital. The front of the BJP leaders' car was damaged in the incident.

The BJP has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of orchestrating violence to disrupt relief efforts. Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari said that the people of West Bengal have despised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's inhuman act of 'Dancing at Carnival with Celebrities' when North Bengal was reeling under floods and landslides. He also alleged that Mamata Banerjee unleashed her goons belonging from the 'Special Community' and incited them to attack the BJP MPs and MLAs so that they can be refrained from engaging in relief work. BJP MLAs & MPs were on ground doing their bit to provide relief to the affected People, added Suvend Adhikari in a post shared on X.

The Trinamool Congress has not yet responded to the allegations. The continuous rains in the highlands of West Bengal for the past 48 hours have caused floods in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. So far, 24 people have lost their lives in the disaster.
