Kalyani Priyadarshan's Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra has become the biggest hit film in Malayalam. Lokah is on its way to becoming the first Malayalam film to collect Rs 300 crores, the highest grossing film in Malayalam. The film is still running in theaters. Actress Nyla Usha publicly stated that actresses Parvathy Thiruvothu and Darshana Rajendran deserve credit for the success of Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra. Her statement was a gesture of solidarity, connecting the film's success to the ongoing advocacy for better female representation in Malayalam cinema. Following this, Malayalam actor and Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) member Rima Kallingal stated that 'we created the space for films like Lokah'. Actor and director Vijay Babu has come out with a response to this.
Vijay Babu has shared a post on Facebook pointing out the women-centric films that were released in Malayalam earlier.
Vijay Babu's Social media post:
Thank god .. no one is taking the space giving credit for movies like Vaishali, Unniyarcha, Kadathanaattu Maakkam, Kallichellamma, Avalude Ravukal, Adaminte Vaariyellu, Neelathamara, Panchagni, Ente Sooryaputhrikku, Akashadoothu, Independence, Elsamma Enna Aankutty, Nandanam, Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, Achuvinte Amma, Kalimannu, How Old Are You, …. And the very own 22fk ++
Malayalam has always given the best woman centric movies ..
When times changed & when our industry reached greater heights with the introduction of OTT adding newer audience; we have started making the content to GLOBAL STANDARDS !!
SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT.
Only and full credit to team Wayfayer & Lokah for finding the space and doing it.
