LUCKNOW: A 20-year-old youth accused of murdering his mother has been arrested. The youth identified as Golu alias Nikhil Yadav killed his mother Reshma Yadav of Lucknow. Nikhil is addicted to online games. Police said that he incurred big financial liability through online betting.

Nikhil had borrowed money through apps and other means to cover his financial losses from online games. The interest was exorbitant. Unable to bear the harassment of the lenders, he decided to steal his 45-year-old mother's jewelry.

Reshma noticed that his son had stolen her jewelry on October 3. This led to a verbal dispute between the two. In the meantime, he beat and killed his mother. He told the police that he and his mother were attacked during a robbery attempt.

An investigation by the police found that Nikhil was the killer. He was arrested from Fatehpur of Uttar Pradesh. The police recovered stolen gold ornaments and other valuables from him. The accused has confessed to the crime.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 103 (murder), 238 (destruction of evidence) and 315 (misappropriation of dead's property) of the BNS.
