THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Devasom Board president N Vasu has responded to the gold-plated controversy. While talking to a private channel, he confirmed that Unnikrishnan Potty had sent an email to devaswom president.

He responded after the details of the court order in connection with the email emerged. N Vasu said that he had received an email informing that the remaining gold from the plating could be used for the marriage of any girl and that forwarding it to the Thiruvabharanam Commissioner was a natural step. He said that it was not his responsibility to explain about the gold changing to copper in Sabarimala and that he was not involved in the irregularities. He clarified that the gold plating was not taken and returned when he was in power and that he has no direct acquaintance with Unnikrishnan Potty.

Meanwhile, the crucial Devaswom Board meeting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram today. Most probably action will be taken against the devaswom officials who were in charge of Sabarimala in 2019. There is a possibility of suspending them. The lapses of the then administrative officer, executive officer etc. will be discussed in the meeting. The devaswom president, devaswom minister and others had admitted that there were lapses on the side of the officials, who were in the Devaswom Board in 2019. The main agenda of the meet will be to take action against the officials in wake of the sabotage, including in Mahasar, signing a document stating that copper was used instead of gold, removing the sheets and giving it to Unnikrishnan Potty without any inspection, allowing him to handle them as he pleased, and not measuring and verifying the exact weight of the gold when returned.
