THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has announced that there is a possibility of rain with thundershowers in Kerala from today to the 15th. There is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph. A cyclonic circulation is present over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining north Kerala coast.

It is in this context that it has been announced that light/moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Kerala and Mahe from October 11 to 15. There is a possibility of very heavy rain and thundershowers at isolated places in Kerala on October 11. IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts in various districts.

IMD has issued an orange alert in Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod districts today. The possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places has been predicted. The Central Meteorological Department defines Very Heavy Rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

IMD has declared a yellow alert in the mentioned districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. The Central Meteorological Department defines heavy rain (ISOL H) as a situation where rain between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm occurs in 24 hours.

• Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslips, and flash floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
• Those living on riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also anticipate the danger and move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
• Those living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. Local government and revenue authorities can be contacted for this.
• Those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially cautious due to the possibility of strong winds. Those who are aware of the danger should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.
