KOZHIKODE: Mobile footage has emerged confirming that KPCC Working President Shafi Parambil MP was attacked during the hartal held in connection with the Perambra CKG College elections by none other than the police.

The video clearly shows the police hitting Shafi with a lathi. The police standing behind are seen swinging a lathi at Shafi while the police are forming a cordon in front of the protesters. Shafi has injuries on one side of his head and nose. Rural SP K.E. Baiju had clarified that the police did not swing lathis and that Shafi might have got injured when tear gas was used to disperse the angry UDF workers. Some Left leaders had also responded that the police did not attack Shafi and that this was all just a ‘show’.

The Perambra police have registered a case against 700 people, including Shafi, in the protest that took place the other day. UDF workers staged a dharna in front of the IG office in Nadakkave, Kozhikode, yesterday morning to protest against police brutality. During the dharna, Congress workers broke the barricade and tried to push their way into the office, leading to a scuffle between the police and the workers. Kodikunnil Suresh MP filed a complaint with the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding immediate intervention and action against the police brutality. The workers surrounded the police during the protest meeting held near the Perambra bus stand. Later, the leaders intervened and calmed the scene. CPM district secretary M Mehboob said that the MP, who was responsible for maintaining peace, was directly resorting to violence and was trying to create a planned conflict in the district.

Shafi's nose fractured, rest required

The doctors treating Shafi Parambil MP have confirmed that two bones in his nose have been fractured. The left nasal bone has fractured and is out of place, and the right nasal bone has fractured. The bridge of his nose is bent. The MP has been shifted to the ICU for further treatment and observation.

Baby Memorial Hospital authorities have announced that Shafi Parambil will remain under observation in the hospital for a few more days.

The theft of Ayyappan's gold cannot be hidden by violence. We have noted the police officers with criminal nature. The policemen who touched Shafi will be called to Delhi. They will have to face retaliation.

-M.K. Raghavan, MP

The attack is planned. The CPM has hatched a conspiracy. The popularity of Shafi Parambil MP is scaring the CPM. Such attacks are an attempt to hide the gold theft controversy.

- Mullappally Ramachandran,

Former KPCC President

Kerala is ruled by a government that does not hesitate to kill. The assault on Shafi Parambil is part of a planned move led by the Chief Minister to hide the theft of Ayyappan's gold.

-Rahul Mamkootathil

MLA

The desire for theft is ingrained in the DNA of the CPM. CPM should not think that they can use the police to eliminate Shafi Parambil and get away with some things. There will be a strong retaliation.
