THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The residents of Padinjarae Nada are shattered over the death of two-and-a-half-year-old Dhruv Nath, the toddler who used to laugh around, talking with neighbours. Dhruv died while undergoing treatment after a drilling machine penetrated his forehead, seriously injuring him.

Dhruv's house is the third from the west of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, near the police control room. The place is always blanketed by police presence. Whenever he stepped out of the house with his mother, Dhruv used to engage in pleasantries with police officials. It was the same police officials who rushed to the house, hearing the screams, to rush Dhruv to the hospital.

People who have known Dhruv Nath are still in disbelief over the fact that the cherubic toddler who used to radiate the neighbourhood with his jest and talks is no longer alive. Meanwhile, the unavailability of a police vehicle to rush Dhruv to the hospital at the time of the accident became a controversy. Dhruv Nath had to be taken to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw despite the presence of three police vehicles at the scene. It was later reported that the drivers were not present at the location despite the vehicle being parked there.

Meanwhile, the child was taken to the hospital in an autorickshaw after the police intervened. An investigation has been launched into the incident of the vehicle not being available during the emergency.

Dhruv's father, Mahesh, who works in Muscat, had come home for the noolukettu ceremony of his second child. The ceremony was on October 8th. Mahesh, who was supposed to leave the next day, had postponed the trip due to Dhruv's insistence. Mahesh, distraught over his son's death, attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the hospital building. He was stopped by the police.
