THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr T Raman (94), a prominent paediatrician and former director of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College SAT Hospital, passed away on Wednesday. Dr T. Raman breathed his last at 3.15 pm yesterday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Murinjapalam due to an age-related illness.
The final rites will be held at 1 pm today at the Thycaud Santhi Kavadam.
Dr Raman, a third batch MBBS student at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, was one of the first paediatricians at SAT Hospital. Dr Raman did his MD at Madras and Lucknow King Medical College and further studies at Madras Medical College. He served at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College until his retirement in 1987 as the Director of the Pediatric Department of SAT Hospital.
The doctor had such a towering reputation that even the children from the state Governor’s family used to consult him for treatment. The first pediatric department started at SAT under the leadership of Dr Omana Mathew included Dr T. Raman, Dr Sugunabai and Dr Elsy Philip.
