THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police will form a special medical board in the case of the guide wire stuck in a woman's chest. The police have written to the district medical officer (DMO) requesting to form a board as part of the investigation into the case filed on the complaint of Sumayya of Kattakada. Apart from the DMO as board convener, the other members of the board would be senior government doctor, public prosecutor, district nursing officer, and forensic expert. The health department had earlier formed a medical board. The police have also sought the report of this medical board.

The guide wire was left in the woman's chest during a thyroid surgery at the Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. The guide wire was found in the chest when an X-ray was taken after she experienced physical difficulties. When she informed the staff of the hospital about this, the doctor who performed the surgery failed to take the responsibility.

The tube is stuck in her chest. It is difficult to remove it. The doctors had earlier said that if tried, her life would be in danger. The statements of Dr Rajeev Kumar, who performed the surgery of Sumayya and the junior doctor of the General Hospital, were recorded earlier. The medical board had also assessed that the woman will not have any health issues if the guide wire is left in the chest. However, Sumayya informed the medical board that she is facing severe health problems including shortness of breath.
