THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Navy–produced documentary Jalkanya, directed by Kerala-based filmmakers Sanjeev Sivan and Deepti Sivan, will be officially unveiled on December 4 — Navy Day — in Trivandrum. The President of India and the Honourable Prime Minister will grace the occasion as Chief Guests.

The film Jalkanya is inspired by the Prime Minister’s 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign and celebrates the spirit, creativity, and resilience of young girls across India.

As part of the initiative, 25 students from Navy schools across the country were carefully selected and brought to Mumbai for a five-day intensive film workshop. The workshop was conducted by some of India’s most eminent film and music personalities, including Aamir Khan, Anurag Kashyap, Shankar Mahadevan, Javed Jaaferi, and Sreekar Prasad, among others.

Following the workshop, the 25 students created their own short films, reflecting their unique perspectives and stories.

The entire project, titled Jalkanya, was conceived by filmmaker Sanjeev Sivan, in collaboration with the Indian Navy, as a pioneering initiative to empower young voices through the medium of cinema

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan is:
'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter)

This slogan is the cornerstone of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, launched on 22 January 2015 in Panipat, Haryana.

Key objectives of the campaign:
• Prevent gender-biased sex-selective elimination
• Ensure survival and protection of the girl child
• Ensure education and participation of the girl child in all spheres

It’s both a social movement and a national program, encouraging people to respect, protect, and empower daughters.
