THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An elderly couple, who was taken to the hospital after suffering burns from the fire that broke out from the earthen hearth, has died. The two has been identified as A Antony (81) of Haritha Nagar in Peroorkada and his wife Shirley (73). The accident occurred when they lit fire after pouring kerosene on the hearth outside their house. The fire first spread to Antony's mundu and while trying to save him, the fire spread to Shirley’s body.

Although the two who suffered serious burns, were taken to a nearby hospital, their lives could not be saved. The bodies will be handed over to their relatives today after a postmortem. The couple leaves behind their son Felix Antony and daughter-in-law Darsini.
