PALAKKAD: The body that was brought home after the hospital authorities forgot to perform a postmortem was taken back to conduct postmortem. The incident took place at the Palakkad District Hospital.

The body of Sadashivan (62), a native of Mundoor, Palakkad, who died after consuming poison, was handed over to his relatives without conducting a postmortem. The hospital staff along with the police came to take the body back while the body was being viewed by the public at the house. The body was handed over to the relatives after the postmortem yesterday morning. The relatives alleged that the district hospital staff was at fault in the incident. The Palakkad DMO announced that an investigation has been launched.

Sadashivan, who was in critical condition after consuming poison, was admitted to the hospital on September 25. He had been undergoing treatment in the ICU for about a month. His death was confirmed on Sunday. Relatives received the body and brought it home. The district hospital staff also arrived around 9.30 pm. They informed that the death certificate would be given only after a postmortem was conducted and that staff, including an ambulance, would be sent at the expense of the district hospital. The body was taken back to the district hospital in an ambulance after the relatives agreed. The hospital superintendent explained that it was believed that Sadashivan's death was a natural one since he had been under treatment for about a month.
